Every year
MTV launches a search for the very best of new musical acts emerging. MTV's
Brand New For 2012 highlights and showcases ten promising acts tipped for stardom.
Over the last 4 years, the campaign has identified some fantastic international talent with Lady Gaga,Justin Bieber & Ke$ha selected for Brand New prior to their debut releases. It has also shone the light on top British music talent such as Tinie Tempah, Adele,Florence + The Machine, Ellie Goulding, Jessie J, Friendly Fires, White Lies, Wretch 32 & Labrinth at the very start of their recording careers.
The event will launch with an exclusive London show at Camden Town music venue Koko (1 December)with one of last year's nominees, Wretch 32, headlining the show. MTV have already announced their first two nominees for this year, who will be performing alongside Wretch 32. They are Clement Marfo & The Frontline and Angel. The rest of the final nominees will be announced on 1st December.
There's a slight difference however, to this year's event, compared to previous years. For the first time ever, the list of top ten nominees will also include one unsigned act. This is a great opportunity for any unsigned act based in the UK or Ireland to try and get their name in the spotlight. All you have to do is upload your song onto MTV's Facebook page by Monday 5 January and if you are lucky enough to make it onto the long list, the public are invited to vote for who they like the most throughout the rest of December. The act with the most votes will be invited to perform alongside the other Brand New for 2012 nominees in front of a live audience in London. The performance will also be filmed. This is a great opportunity considering that the Brand New campaign has served as a reliable indicator of who will make it big in the UK music scene.
