Keira Knightley and Emmy Rossum channel this easy, sexy style Beauty 19 June 2012 by Alex Zagalsky Good news for anyone who has less than ten minutes to prep their hair in the morning: the messy braid and quick twist updos are back - just look to the red carpet for confirmation. Newly engaged Keira Knightley (she is set to marry her rocker beau James Righton from The Klaxons) was at the premiere of her latest movie, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World in Los Angeles this week, sporting a very un-Californian up do: a bird's nest of twirls and twigs (well okay bobby pins), rounded off by a red flowerbud hairband. It was the wild and romantic hair equivalent of a Bronte novel: feminine, intricate and seductive. Of course it helps that Keira has a porcelain, flawless complexion. There's a lot of skin exposure with this look, so not everyone will feel confident enough to carry it off, especially if you travel on public transport and run the risk of being examined at nose-to-cheek range. Try it instead on a balmy summer's evening; just stock up on bobby pins and twirl shorter bottom meshes in one direction and longer top meshes the opposite way. This makes the end result look more entangled and interesting. For longer hair, look to Emmy Rossum's easy 'cascading' braid which she showed off at the Critics Choice Television Awards on Monday (June 18, 2012). We love how she tweeted about it before arriving at the event, as if she was going to a student house party: “My friend @therachelleigh told me to do a side twisty thing so I did. #criticschoice” For a similar look, braid from the top of your hairline (lower like Emmy if you have no fringe or side strands) and pick up longer strands of hair as you move downwards. This hairstyle works best on slightly wavy hair, so curl or braid the night before for a sexier end result. Once fastened, loosen the braid in places so it looks chunkier and more voluminous. Check out cutegirlshairstyles.com for tutorials on every braid imaginable, all conceived by a mum of six in Salt Lake City who began blogging the hairstyles she practised on her five daughters - she's made quite a name for herself and is now posted through Disney Style! Here's her version of the easy braid.
